Nearly 267 million adults (15 years and above) in India (29% of all adults) are users of tobacco, according to the Global Adult Tobacco Survey India, 2016-17.
Over 80% of the world’s 1.3 billion tobacco users live in low- and middle-income countries. In 2020, 22.3% of the global population used tobacco, 36.7% of all men and 7.8% of the world’s women.
Tobacco can be
- Smoke form
- Smokeless
The idea that it takes 21 days to form a habit is tossed around all the time, but the idea likely originated in Dr. Maxwell Maltz’s 1960 book, Psycho-Cybernetics.
Tobacco addiction is just not easy a picking up a stuff and putting it in ones mouth, its more severe and endangering because its all in the brain. You brain sends signals to your body to eat or smoke tobacco if you’re addicted.
We recommend patients to follow a 21 day rule .
During the course of 21 days, the dose of tobacco should be tapered.
- g. If a person eats or smokes tobacco for 4 times in a day, eat it 4 times for 3 days, then for the next three days, eat /smoke for three times, then two and then one. When you drop down to one, try doing it for the alternate day and then quit. This gives our body that habit of eating or smoking less and you are free from your addiction. You brain and body will also get accustomed to the decreasing dose.
This method does not involve any use of nicotine withdrawl drugs.
